Single-sided deafness (SSD) — where one ear has no usable hearing — presents unique listening challenges. Without binaural (two-ear) hearing, the brain loses its ability to determine the direction of sounds and to separate speech from background noise.

CROS (Contralateral Routing of Signal) hearing systems address this by placing a wireless transmitter on the non-hearing ear. The transmitter picks up sounds from that side and streams them to a receiver worn on the hearing ear, effectively giving the wearer full 360-degree awareness.
